We don’t go to the movie theater very often, no reason, we just do other things as a family. We go maybe once a year, twice, tops. We loved the show tonight!
These are our “AAAAhhhh!!! When is the next Marvel movie coming out???!!!” faces. What’s next? Another Captain America? Hulk? Guardians of the Galaxy? 
There is a big payoff when I catch up to my kids’ friends- the nagging ends. “Mrs. J, have you watched those movies I loaned you? Have you started Arrow yet? You are going to LOVE Daredevil!! WILL YOU PLEASE CATCH UP TO ME IN AGENTS OF SHIELD!” I think I have finally watched all of the Marvel movies and have almost finished going through my DVR’d Agents of Shield episodes. (one of the best lines from a show: “Perhaps we could have discussed this alone without all of Hufflepuff looking on”).
I have to admit, I did the same thing to some of these kids with the Harry Potter books- remember the childhood credo-” If you can dish it out, you gotta take it, too.” Years ago, the babysitters for my kids were great fun to talk with about the Potterverse.
Watched Iron Man 3 last night- loved it! Almost blinked and missed Stan Lee’s signature cameo, but I caught it. And I thought this movie had the best after-credits clip. I liked The Winter Soldier better, because it tied in so many of the sub-plots over the whole Marvel universe, but what do I know- maybe the new Avengers movie will tie into Iron Man 3? The Husband and I will try to catch it in the theater. But Iron Man 3? Loved it. Great character growth. I was too wrapped-up to note any favorite lines, whoops.
To wrap all of this up, I am a full-on fangirl now of the whole Marvel experience. Sigh. They got me, and I’m loving it. On to Agent Carter, Daredevil and the rest. Next time I look for a new show or movie to watch I’ll be choosing those that are NOT part of a huge, obsessively interwoven web of excitement. Again, I share the warning- don’t ask teens to recommend new TV shows or movies.
Say you have teenagers, and you used to teach Junior and Senior High kids, and you enjoy talking with them about their interests… Stay with me on this, it will make sense. If you take movie AND television show tips from them, BEWARE. It just might consume all of your free time.
Back in January I posted about how a friend of The Boy was excited for me to see the new TV show “Agents of SHIELD.” Like a dope, I started watching it. Little did I know how addicting it would be, and that I would be scrambling to watch the other movies and shows that slot into this multi-layered universe.
I am trying to catch up on the Marvel Universe. Trying furiously. I am trying NICK FURY-ously to catch up before I see the latest: “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Tonight The Husband and I watched “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” It was great!! Tomorrow I will try to cram in “Iron Man 3.”
And I still want to watch “Agents of Shield” season two. And Agent Carter. and Daredevil. And all the Fantastic Four stuff. And whatever else a know-it-all 14-year-old boy tells me to watch because their dad saved all the original comic books so they are our walking encyclopedia about the Marvel universe, so we do what he says and try to cut him off before he can tell me any spoilers. Because I am completely hooked on what adolescent boys tell me I should watch.
At least his family is generous to loan me all the movies, Thanks Beth and Al! Or should I curse you? The jury is still out on this… I am kissing my free time goodbye, that is for sure.
You know the drill- You find something funny online and turn to show it to, oh, let’s say your TEENAGER… what do they always say?
“Oh, ha ha, yeah, I saw that a long time ago,”
or worse, “Yeah, whatever, I’ve seen it.”
or the worst, “Pffft. OMGeee, mom, everyone’s seen that.”
Hmm. This sounds familiar. Oh, that’s right, it’s because I say that to my mom, too. Shame on me.

Saw “Midsummer Night’s Dream” with The Girl. I’ve never seen it before and always wanted to, so when she announced that she had control of the TV for homework’s sake, I joined in. I loved it when the “Though she be but little, she is fierce” line came up- I forgot that it came from this play and was surprised to see what the scene was like that contained this favorite quote.
Yea for English assignments that mean I get to watch Shakespeare that I had yet to see!
