January’s Project: How do I Drive This Thing?

Just do what the guy says and we will all be safe...
Just do what the guy says and we will all be safe…

Three days into January and I’m still finding something new to do. Every day! WOO HOO! What are the bets that I can keep this up for another three days?

How about a project for the month? That sounds good to me. To quote the great Captain Picard, I’ll “Make it so.”

JANUARY’S PROJECT:

FIGURE OUT HOW IN THE WORLD DOES ONE SET UP AND MANAGE A BLOG?

(Now that I’ve dated myself with that ST-TNG reference above, I’ll get to the point…)

Hopefully, by the end of the month I will have figured out how to incorporate pictures, establish links with social media sites, choose what this blog will look like on screen (WordPress calls this the THEME, see? I am learning, YOW!) And while I figured out what a sticky post is,what the heck is a slug?

Lucky for me search engines exist, and these three sites will be great helps in this project:

From WordPress-

A great infographic-

And a whole ton of links and explanations from WordPress blogger Gretchen Louis-

So, if you are an experienced blogger and have some great tips for a n00b like me, please share! What did you do to learn how to navigate WordPress, Blogger or your platform of choice?

156,000 Calories + Fresh Tortillas = A New Kind of Happy

Pancho Villa Market is where you can head in San Diego for freshly made tortillas. We are out of torts, so, here I am. Instead of a usual post-grocery shopping snack of little,street-style carne asada soft tacos, today I’m looking for something different.

The fabulous woman behind the counter and I combined our Spanish and English and came up with these snacks: birria de res, and buche de puerco, a chile relleno, some carnitas, and a burrito with adobada de pollo. (Need to brush up on your high school Spanish? Here’s a great site for a cheat sheet- “A Gringo’s Guide to Mexican Food,” or, “Everything You Need to Know to Read a Taqueria Menu.” at http://doginspace.com/taqueriaspanish/).

Carnitas and rellenos I know, but the adobada, birria and buche were all new to me. And I will eat anything if it is something other people will regularly eat- no squeamishness in me. Bring on the tripas, medudo is one of my favorites.

WHERE HAVE THESE BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!? The birria and buche became little, soft tacos as fast as possible by toasting up the tiny corn tortillas and adding a little jack cheese and lettuce.

New Day, Words and Thoughts

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.”

Eleanor Roosevelt

I’ve had a lot of fun planning, and my calendar is filling up with adventures big and small for the coming year!

Occasionally I’ll force one of my teenagers to feign interest in my ideas- I’m honestly looking forward to their surprised looks when I tell them that I will be unavailable to attend to their  whim and wish, as I have rounded up about, oh… 365 OF MY OWN!

The best part will be when they realize that they will have to participate in many of them.

Just kidding- the best part will be that they are actually pretty interested in tasting different menus, recipes and restaurants, and heading off to different places.

Branching Out? Or… Going Out On a Limb?

Looking for a blog about reinventing yourself? Starting new and healthy habits for the New Year? This isn’t it. Nope!
How about a blog about trying something new? Yep! You’ve found the right spot on the Intertubes. This is the place to be.
